Yogscast Explores The Minecraft 1.8 Pre-Release Feature Set

Over at the Yogscast our favorite masters of hijinks and gaming, Simon and Lewis, are exploring all the new features of the new Minecraft 1.8 Pre-Release that was leaked yesterday evening.  They've put up FIVE SIX videos showing off some of the new features, creatures, and items of what is going to be the latest update for the minecraft universe.  As always they're very funny and entertaining videos and their reactions are priceless! I've compiled the five videos below after the jump, and here is the post for the links again if you need them.

Also, using ovens/furnaces will crash your server so beware!

I've been running around with some friends too on our own server and the game certainly does have a "new" feel to it. I'm sure once they get more of the 1.8 features polished and do an official release I'm sure it'll be a great time!  One thing that is a somewhat of a disappoint is the Enderman creature.    They're not rare by any means.  Also I hope they're a bit bugged because they seemed to be very docile for the most part.  Even if they are provoked they aren't that difficult to kill.  Apparently the ender pearl they drop as loot when they die is supposed to cut the distance they're hostile to you by half, but we've been right up in their face, dragging our cross-hair right over tall faces and nothing.  I was hoping for a scarier creature, a lot tougher than a creaper and just as deadly and something you did't want to come across without backup, and we're pretty rare.  Right now they show up often enough to be a curiosity, but once you've seen and killed one a skeleton is still far more dangerous.

Minecraft 1.7 Update Released!

As suspected Notch and friends released the 1.7 patch about 30 min ago.  Here are the details of what is in the patch:

Minecraft Beta 1.7
1.7:
+ Added pistons
+ Fire or redstone is now required to trigger TNT
+ Fences can be stacked
+ Added shears
+ Shears can be used to pick up leaf blocks
+ Shears can be used to shear sheep without hurting them
* Sheep no longer drop wool from being punched
- Removed Herobrine

If you don't recall what the pistons can do here is the video from Jeb again:

I would love to hear about and see what people make using these pistons.  If you have a cool idea and a youtube video I'll be happy to post it here displaying your minecrafty prowess!  So go get building!

UPDATE: Looks like Notch couldn't leave well enough alone and tweaked something at the last minute so there will be a 1.7.01 out shortly, while your waiting why not watch the latest video showcasing what is in 1.7 from this video from the official Minecraft Youtube Channel

Mis Adventures in Minecraft Episodes 11-14

I just posted up on my youtube channel the next exciting chapter that is my Minecraft adventuring saga.  Episodes 11-14 are now up and included in the full playlist which you can find here:

mis Adventures In Minecraft Full Playlist

Episode 11-14 has tidbits about the new update that occurred on Halloween as well as a small subsequent patch to fix a few bugs and the removal of the deeper more light spawning "feature" that notch himself indicated he thought sucked.  My guess he got caught rounding a corner and BAM creeper! Like I did, in a "secure" tunnel.  I also show you one way to "strip mine" for resources and the discussion of a simple log setup near your entrance can yield creature resources with zero or little effort.

Feel free to wander over to the youtube channel and watch the videos and then please rate and subscribe.  If you have any questions or want to see something specifically in Minecraft please leave your request in the comments section below and I'll include it in an upcoming video!

Also as you might have noticed I have a ustream widget for my ustream's ptsuks uncanny world channel where you can watch me playing video games live, lately minecraft solely.  I typically will tweet when I'm playing live, so you might want to follow me on twitter. So I hope you can catch me playing live sometime!

Episode 7-10 show you how to construct flint and steel, introduces you to the "Minecraft Song By Bobby Yarsulik, how to construct a "incinerator" to burn up all of your unwanted items (gravel, etc.)  and of course what kind of video series would it be with out death after death after death of my poor character!  Sadly he also finds out the hard way why FIRE IS BAD! Hehe.

Feel free to wander over to the youtube channel and watch the videos and then please rate and subscribe.  If you have any questions or want to see something specifically in Minecraft please leave your request in the comments section below and I'll include it in an upcoming video!

Minecraft Creator Podcast On Indie Games

In my recent play sessions of minecraft, sessions 4-6, I mentioned I'd link to a interview podcast with the creator Notch, or Markus Persson as he's known in the "real world".  Its quite a nice little piece from the game site Indiegames.  The indiegames guys ask him what's he's going to do with all of his oodles of cash, what's changed in his life, where minecraft is heading and what the future might hold for both minecraft as well as the creator.  So on to the interview!

Hope you enjoyed this post and thanks for stopping by!
