Scrolls - Yogscast Interview and Demo Videos + Bonus

Here is the Yogscast.com video interview with "Scrolls" developer and Mojang Co-Founder Jahkob.  They get into some of the nitty gritty of the game and its various delivery systems of how you might be getting more scrolls to play with.

It sounds very interesting and certainly a possible challenger to Magic The Gathering, which I really like to play, but frankly i'm sick of the "collectible aspect" of these games.  One nice thing about Scrolls is that you'll be able to "grind out" for new packs of cards so after the initial payment you'll be able to remain competitive without spending more, and unlike the rash of online "free" games now with micro transactions you won't have to shell out real cash for "in game currency" unless you really want to upgrade faster.

They also touch on various other subjects in part two such as the lawsuit on the name scrolls with Bethesda, hotubs, saunas, and drinkings! Here are the interviews:

Star Wars The Old Republic (BETA) - PLAYING LIVE

I got into the Star Wars The Old Republic Beta Test for this weekend and it appears that the NDA was lifted so we can talk about the game.  I thought "hey why not stream my play!" so I am.  Enjoy!
(I might be in a queue for a bit so please be patient)

Yogscast & Notch Make Up! - Well Maybe, Maybe Not.

So over on twitter and reddit things appear to be looking good for a "Minecraft MineCon Makeup" between the Yogscast and Notch.  Here is the twitter thread:

 Markus Persson
It's likely the entire Yogscast scenario is just stress related misunderstanding. I apologize for bringing it online before talking to them.

 Markus Persson
Hey, ! I'm sorry about being a dick.

but then(note the retweet by carl manneh):

 The Mojang Team
We found it hard working with Yogscast, but we regret that this was aired publicly. We will now sort this out with them directly.
Retweeted by

which the yogscast responded in kind:

 The Yogscast Crew
thanks for reaching out, we are looking forward to talking after Thanksgiving

and then followed by:

 Carl Manneh
@
thanks guys, have a splendid weekend

So who knows if they actually will make up, if anything it might be a easy "truce" or public "cease fire".  Also I wonder if the poison pill/info was given to Notch by Carl since he's the managing director.  Maybe he's not the best at being "CEO".  I know when Minecraft Chick intro'd him on stage and during the "history" bit she Notch asked Carl who'd make a good CEO and he said "I would!", perhaps a presumptuous? Maybe.  Was he the one who was in charge of making sure things went smoothly at Minecon? As CEO, I'd say somewhat, as he certainly was the one to task someone with getting things organized.

Like I mentioned in a few previous posts it sounds like whomever was in charge of setting up a "convention" for minecraft dropped the ball in a few key areas and this is the actual result of causing the issues between the two camps, as the talent that was brought in should have been paid, comp'd room, etc. and certainly included on the rights to any streaming of their content.  Which would land blame solely in Mojang's camp.  Also as far as I can tell yogscast even if they weren't paid properly and had to wrestle for the rights to get their content posted on their site acted in the positive toward the fans.  I've not seen any negative video of them behaving badly at minecon, only reports from a few, perhaps disgruntled, fans who by all accounts only reported some bad behavior by some minor staff of yogscast not directly from Simon, Lewis, or Hannah, or Tinman.

Only time will tell if they do makeup and "work with" each other again, but i'm not holding my breath.

Yogscast Responds To Minecon Controversy! - Video!

Simon and Lewis are back and they've responded to the controversy in video format...

Well sort of...

You see they don't say really anything except that they're back, they had fun, and they can forgive Notch for what he said directly after because of lack of sleep, which they are going to go back doing since Simon is ill, from meeting 5000 childrens.

With that said they, I suspect Hannah, has also put up a full text response going into a bit more of the situation which you can read below:

We’re sure many of you have seen or heard about Notch’s post-Minecon tweets, which were not what we expected to see when we got off the plane from Minecon – we’ve had a sleep now and recovered a bit, so this is our response:We are very disappointed by these tweets from someone we admire and respect. We can understand that it was the morning after the deadmau5 party and Notch was very tired, but we are still fairly upset. The quotes and actions that Notch attributed to us were not said by us or published anywhere by us. Therefore we are surprised and confused about where this stuff has come from - especially since the only time we spoke to Notch was at the interview.Regarding dropping f-bombs at the show - we apologise for this, but had rehearsed the whole show in front of the organisers and half of Mojang and they had approved it. We were given no guidelines or oversight in the weeks leading up to Minecon and there were ample opportunities at the rehearsal for Mojang to inform us of problems, such as being careful about swearing, which is pretty common in our youtube videos.Out of all the tweets that Notch sent out, most hurtful was the accusation that we told a kid to “fuck off” and crossed out another signature – which is something we would never ever do.We loved spending time with fans and were overwhelmed by how many people were there to support us and give us gifts. Simon has enough Jaffas to last him until the middle of 2012. The problem was that Minecon is a new show and organisation was pretty bad, and when we came to the scheduled signing sessions, nothing had been set up for us and we had to scrabble around to fetch tables, ropes and pens ourselves. With some younger kids around, it was our priority to make sure everything was safe, as we have seen injuries in the past. This lack of organization contributed to long and confused lines and we were heartbroken to have to turn away so many people when we ran out of time. Simon can only handle a certain amount of time between cups of coffee and nicotine tablets before collapsing, but we made a real effort to get out there and managed to do about six hours of signing. Although we were frustrated, we would never have treated fans in the way that Notch suggested we did.We were also unhappy and surprised that a week before Minecon, Mojang informed us that they had sold the rights to livestream our show and content to IGN – they hadn’t asked us, they hadn’t spoken to us – they just sold it. Because of this, we nearly cancelled the trip, but decided to say “balls to it” and come anyway, because we felt we owed it to the fans. Hannah actually spoke with IGN directly earlier, and they agreed to take their video down and let us put the videos up on our channel, so a big thanks to them for that.We were not paid, and never demanded to be paid. We asked for some support, and Mojang said they could offer us two hotel rooms for the duration of the stay and a small boardroom to rest in. We spent a huge amount of money on flights, rooms, food and equipment for the 10 people that we brought along to support us, act as security, make videos/posts and generally help out. We also gave away 100 special t-shirts for free. The reason we came to Minecon is because we wanted to thank you guys and meet the community that we love and are a part of. We couldn’t have gotten to where we are now without you guys, and so we decided to eat the costs of attending and just have fun. This is why we spent our panel giving a voice to loads of talented people that couldn’t attend but have made Minecraft what it is today. We’re not gonna stop making videos, not going to stop loving you guys, and hopefully we’ll see you at more gaming conventions in the future.Lewis & Simon & Hannah

So it seems that whoever was in charge of setting things up "balls it'd up" and yogscast was scrambling to make things right for a proper signing experience.

As for selling of the streaming rights to IGN by Mojang of the yogscast panel, I'm not sure how I feel about it, but it seems wrong.  Yogscast should have been paid for, or included in the deal for their content, just as I assume that deadmau5 got paid for his show at the club on Sat.

Typically when "hosting a con" you or the venue you get is usually responsible for making sure all signing areas are adequate, as well as if you're hosting a con and you're bringing in talent at minium you provide a base of rooms and typically air faire, wether or not you're paid in addition to those "comps" thats usually negotiated if needed.  If I recall usually if a signing session is a paid session. e.g.,  $5 for a signed item if not the provided item by some manufacturer (Razor mousepad), or $10 pictures with personalities, then there is no fee above the air faire and rooms for the "talent", that is unless you're some super celeb, which none of the parties involved are.  Because if you're getting $5 per autographed item for 5k that's a nice chunk of change ($25,000).  If its free, then usually talent gets a bit of the "take" so to speak.  How much were tickets again? Hmmmm? Exactly.

Well I wished this was all a big hoax but it seems its not, so we're going to have to decide and just live with it that Mom and Dad are divorced.  Hopefully the scars won't run too deep. (Poor Simon).

update: got this via twitter:

@ptsuk we signed everything for free and also gave out 100 t-shirts to fans for free. Would have brought more but no luggage space ;)

So there you have it folks!

Again here is the video of the yogscast signing a mouse pad for a fan, which I'm sure is exactly how they all pretty much went:

One Fans Video Of Yogscast "Antics" At Minecon

Here is a fans video of the signing session of the Yogscsast.  I'm really starting to get the feeling that this is whole story is a "troll" gone bad.  Only time will tell as we're still waiting for the Yogscast.com to get back to the UK and deliver their account of the situation.

Updates:
This is also why if this is a "troll" its gotten way out of hand, from twitter:

Totalbiscuit
Just heard from Simon and Lewis, they got back to Gatwick airport and were met by a crazed Notch supporter who repeatedly insulted them, IRL

the guys are currently travelling back to the UK, once they're back, give them 24 hours or so to create an official statement - MintyMinute

The Yogscast Crew

we aren't stalling in any way, we merely want to draft a coherent response, instead of raging in a con-flu/jet lagged state - have patience!

Latest From Notch:

 Markus Persson

I'm sorry about the ugly public airing of dirty laundry.

Latest From Hannah(11/23):

 The Yogscast Crew
just woke up after about 14 hours sleep, horribly jetlagged, will try and record something about this tonight - Hannah
